The best football management game for the PC ever?!
Despite not a achieving major success in Europe, the Ultimate Soccer Manager series gained a cult following for its ease of play, detailed micromanagement capabilities and its trademark features of bungs, betting and rigging matches.
Many fans in the UK were first introduced to USM98 as the game was included in software bundles sold with PCs shortly after its release and early into the new millennium.
Compatibility issues (until now!)
The game worked smoothly and almost error-free under Windows 95, 98 and M.E. but with Windows XP it is widely reported that the game does not run properly. On execution it will either produce a blank screen or display a muddled split screen if using the program compatibility mode...
But it is now possible to play USM98 in Windows XP and Windows 7 by using a Microsoft compatibility program that is included on the Microsoft website or the Windows XP disc.
But why would I want to play this game again?
Admittedly the game is graphically very limited compared to current releases but it has lost nothing of its old charm and will addict you just as before. The outdated database of players and clubs adds nostalgia to the unedited game but with several newer updates and a data editor included in Downloads section of this site, changes can easily be made.
